Why Couple a Wanderers?

Couple a Wanderers was created out of a sudden impact that changed both our lives.  After being the victim of a hit-and-run by an SUV while cycling, Camille was tired of spending years on the couch recovering without aim.  Swiping through old travel photos she realized what she wanted most was to re-learn to walk, and get back to a level of physical fitness that allowed for her to travel the world. With that goal in mind, she began posting pictures of past travels on Instagram to inspire her to push through years of physical therapy and surgeries to where you see her today–climbing rocks, backpacking mountains, and wandering the streets of foreign countries hand-in-hand with Niels.

So…we went on a ’round the world honeymoon and kept on traveling! And now we choose to share our journey in order to inspire YOU to face your challenges and live your best adventure! Come wander with us!

Travel Philosophy:

Don’t over-plan. Let “Wanderluck” be your guide!

While some planning can help save money, and lay a foundation, we find that leaving room for the unexpected brings us the best adventures!  It’s not always easy, and sometimes it’s messy, but we always end up making new friends, experiencing new cultures, and learning life lessons from the best teacher we know; travel!

Most Interesting Travel Experience?:

Getting lost in the rainforest of Costa Rica for 24 hours.  (Pics or it didn’t happen? We’ve got a blog post with GoPro footage coming soon!)

Best Trip Ever?

Definitely our 4 month ’round-the-world honeymoon!

Honeymoon Destinations:

Wedding in Costa Rica–>Peru–>Iceland–>Ireland–>The Philippines–>New Zealand–>Tahiti

Countries Visited:

Niels: 26

Camille: 25 (This Summer we’ll be roadtrippin’ through Europe so Camille can make her goal of 30 countries by Thirty!) #ComeWanderWithUs

  1. Some people – like you – manage to take adversity and turn it around into something great.

The world needs more positive high-energy people like you – as opposed to the low-life who hit-and-run. We are a family of cyclists and that kind of thing makes my blood run cold.

My very best wishes in your travels!!

    1. Thank you Joanne, that really means a lot to me.

When people asked me how I could be so happy after what happened, my answer was always “what other option do I have?” Being depressed because of what happened to me doesn’t make me enjoy my life, and I’m fortunate to still be here. Positive was my way to healing!

Of course, I agree about your sentiments. Accidents happen, but leaving someone alone in the road to die is…well, all the words I can think of don’t do the heinous act justice.

I still bike, but as little as possible on the streets now. My husband and I could love to do a longer, multi-day trip with camping gear! If you have any suggestions from some fun bikes with your family, let us know 🙂

I appreciate your support! Happy travels!

      Pura Vida,
      Camille

      1. I share your sentiment. After an accident a few years ago when I broke my collarbone (operator error 😏) I’ve opted to stay a trail rider now.

Quebec is well-known for its “Route Verte” – a network of literally hundreds of kilometres of cycling trails throughout the province. Last year I cycled its famed “Le Petit Train du Nord” which is a 210 km section of trail north of Montreal. I highly recommend it anyone who loves trail riding. As an old railway line, the grade is easy, and it’s well maintained with amenities along the way.
Although I stayed in B&Bs, my understanding is that camping is also an option.

      2. I’m sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you’ve found a way to keep biking!

Wow! Thanks for the tip! That trail sounds amazing and just what we are looking for! It’s hard to find longer routes that aren’t roads. Super excited to check this out! Thanks Joanne!
